I love the tutus that were done for the National Ballet of Canada’s 60th anniversary – there are 60 tutus for the 60 years. I love ballet – it’s such a beautiful art and the costumes are gorgeous. The tutu has such relevance in fashion – I feel like it’s such a sophisticated statement that you can really be creative with. And that’s certainly what various designers have done with these tutus – they really had fun with them and took them to an avant-garde level that will totally change your opinion of where and how far you can take the design of a tutu…

So here are some of my personal favorites:

I just love this inventive design. The flowers look so divine – I can just imagine this looking so amazing on a ballerina – like she’s walking in the forest and makes a gorgeous creation out of flowers and moss.

I adore this salmon pink color. It looks so elegant and chic – like you could wear it in real life and look über sophisticated. The way the tutu ruffles is so effortless and beautiful.

This tutu is just stunning. I love the texture of the skirt – it looks so edgy yet soft and luxurious. The cutout shape of the top looks like it was made for a goddess – this is such a wonderful creation.

This tutu has a lot of beautiful details and embellishments on it – it’s too bad you can’t see it so well since it’s white. The silhouette of the skirt looks so lovely. It has such a light, airy feel to it. The texture of the fabric looks so angelic.

The idea to encircle butterflies around this tutu is a genius idea. Again, a girl wandering in the forest comes to mind. Such wonderful fantasies this tutu could tell…

I adore the asymmetry of this design. The white tulle peaking out looks so gorgeous. I love the fact that this design is so colorful – the blues and greens really pop.

This piece is so avante-garde and architectural. It’s definitely a sculptural and modern silhouette – but it retains the qualities of grace and purity that the classic tutu possesses.

Another stunning sculptural piece. It hangs so beautifully. There’s so much fabric hanging and draping from the tutu, yet the designer manages to make it look weightless – as though the fabric is just floating around the wearer effortlessly.
